Feature Issue
If the captions in an SRT file do not begin within approximately the first 10 seconds of the recording, all captions will become offset. For example, if the captions begin at the 20-second mark in the SRT file, captions will not begin playing in the Studio media panel until the 40-second mark.
Steps to Recreate
- Create a Studio webcast
- Create a recording within the Studio webcast, do not begin speaking within the first 10 seconds
- Generate an SRT file from the recording (this is typically handled by the captioning vendor)
- In the presenter console, navigate to tools > subtitle track and then create a new subtitle track and save your changes
- In the presenter console, navigate to tools > manage media > select your media version > click the CC icon
- In the new panel that appears, click the blue import button, upload your SRT file, and save your changes
- Set the media version on-demand
- Enable captions within the media panel and note that captions do not begin at the time specified in the SRT file

Workaround
A very short caption can be added to the beginning of the file to prevent this issue from occurring. This can either be done within the SRT file or it can be manually added within the presenter console via the below steps.
- In the presenter console, navigate to tools > manage media > select your media version > click the CC icon
- In the new panel that appears scroll down to the bottom and click the add new button
- Set a timestamp from .001 to .002 seconds. This field may not be left blank. You can insert a space character or any other character
- Save changes
- Captions will now appear at the correct time in the media panel (note – you may need to clear your browser’s cache to see this take effect)
Cause & Fix
TFS# 12673 has been entered for this issue. QA is testing to recreate. Once testing is complete, Product Management will review for a release date assignment.
